Abstract
Literacy refers to the ability of a person to read and write texts. But on the other hand, the Academic performance allows to interpret in a qualitative or quantitative way the results of the academic performance achieved by the students during the school year. The main objective of this research was to determine the incidence of literacy in academic performance in children from 7 to 8 years of age at the Colegio Alemán Humboldt Samborondón educational institution. The methodology that was used was mixed with a logical method of hypothetical-deductive approach since a literature review was carried out and data was collected through a survey previously reviewed and valued by an expert, which was later applied to measure the level of literacy of each one of the students, taking a sample of 70 students of which there were 34 boys and 36 girls. On the other hand, the charts of the final grades were analyzed to measure the academic performance of each student. The results obtained gave a very significant correlation between both variables of this project, in which 0.000 was obtained in Pearson's Chi-square, which means that there is a high degree of correspondence. Due to the aforementioned, the conclusion is reached and the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is discarded. For future research, it should be investigated how literacy could influence levels of higher education.

La lectoescritura hace referencia a la habilidad que posee una persona para leer y escribir textos. Pero por otro lado el Rendimiento académico permite interpretar de manera cualitativa o cuantitativa los resultados del desempeño académico alcanzado por los estudiantes durante el ciclo escolar. El objetivo principal de la presente investigación fue determinar la incidencia de la lectoescritura en el rendimiento académico en los niños de 7 a 8 años de la institución educativa Colegio Alemán Humboldt Samborondón. La metodología que se empleo fue mixta con un método lógico de enfoque hipotético-deductivo ya que se realizó una revisión de literatura y se hizo una recolección de datos mediante una encuesta previamente revisada y valorada por una experta, que luego fue aplicada para medir el nivel de lectoescritura de cada uno de los estudiantes, tomando una muestra de 70 estudiantes de los cuales eran 34 niños y 36 niñas. Por otro lado, se analizaron los cuadros de las calificaciones finales para medir el rendimiento académico de cada estudiante. Los resultados obtenidos dieron una correlación muy significativa entre ambas variables del presente proyecto, en el cual se obtuvo el 0,000 en el Chi-cuadrado de Pearson, lo que significa que hay un alto grado de correspondencia. Por lo antes mencionado se llega a la conclusión y se acepta la hipótesis alternativa y descartamos la hipótesis nula. Para futuras investigaciones se debe investigar como la lectoescritura podría influir en niveles de educación superior.
