Abstract
The purpose of this academic paper is to address an issue of contingency that is currently happening in the development of Ecuador and that corresponds to the new reforms being implemented by the National Government for selective import substitution which strive that Ecuador’s Balance of Payment reaches an equilibrium and undoubtedly all measures that seek to generate immediate changes in Ecuador’s society can generate negative or positive outcomes, both for the import sector, and citizens. As it will be discussed, at first instance there will be a discussion of the Import-Substituting Industrialization model (ISI), and how it was applied in several Latin American countries and how it influenced their economies in their respective period of time. In addition, through literature review, lectures, interviews to experts and graphics will reflect the possible outcomes that can occur using the ISI model, both in the short and long term in the Ecuadorian economy.

El propósito de este artículo académico es abordar un tema de contingencia que se encuentra en pleno desarrollo en Ecuador y que corresponde a las nuevas reformas que se están implementando por parte del Gobierno Nacional para la sustitución selectiva de importaciones que buscan equilibrar la balanza comercial a favor de Ecuador y que sin lugar a dudas, como todas las medidas que buscan generar cambios inmediatos, van desarrollando impactos de índole negativo o positivo, tanto para el sector importador, como para los ciudadanos. En primera instancia, se analizará el modelo de Industrialización por Sustitución de Importaciones (ISI), que fue aplicado en varios países de Latinoamérica y como éste influyó en sus economías en su respectiva época. Además, mediante revisión literaria, charlas, gráficos y entrevistas a expertos del tema, reflejaremos los posibles resultados que se generará mediante el uso del modelo ISI, tanto a corto, como al largo plazo en la economía ecuatoriana.
