Abstract

The main objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the pedagogical use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the development of cognitive skills in students from eighth to tenth grade at Unidad Educativa Eduardo Granja Garcés, located in the canton of Pedro Carbo. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining quantitative instruments such as structured surveys administered to both teachers and students, and qualitative tools including interviews and classroom observations. The study is classified as applied, descriptive, and correlational, which enabled the researchers to characterize the current state of ICT use and explore its impact on cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The results showed that both teachers and students have a positive perception of ICT use in the classroom, emphasizing benefits like increased motivation, active participation, and improved understanding of academic content. Nonetheless, some limitations were also identified, including insufficient infrastructure, lack of internet connectivity, and the need for better teacher training. It is concluded that the effective integration of ICT in teaching and learning processes has a significant impact on students’ cognitive development, provided it is supported by proper pedagogical planning, ongoing teacher professional development, and a supportive institutional environment.
