EL DERECHO A LA SALUD Y EL ACCESO A MEDICAMENTOS EN ECUADOR: ANÁLISIS DE LOS DESAFÍOS Y PROPUESTAS PARA SU GARANTÍA EN CONTEXTO DE LA ENFERMEDAD DE DIABETES.

Abstract

This study analyzes the right to health and access to medicines in Ecuador, focusing on the challenges and barriers faced by people with diabetes in obtaining essential treatments such as insulin and antidiabetics. We detail background on diabetes prevalence, constitutional and legal frameworks guaranteeing access to healthcare, and inequalities in the public health system. The methodology combines qualitative and quantitative approaches, based on data from public institutions, interviews, and case studies. Key findings highlight economic, logistical, and structural barriers that limit the availability of medicines, particularly in rural areas and for vulnerable groups. The analysis concludes with concrete proposals to improve infrastructure, the drug supply chain, and equity in treatment access, emphasizing the State's responsibility to guarantee this fundamental right.
