ESTRATEGIAS PARA LA REACTIVACIÓN HOTELERA DE BAHÍA DE CARÁQUEZ DESPUÉS DEL TERREMOTO DEL 16 A.

Abstract

On April 16th, 2016, the coastal region of Ecuador was affected by an earthquake of 7.8 degrees on the Richter seismological scale, which afflicted mainly to the provinces of Manabí. Before this event, Tourism was considered an important activity in the economy of the city of Bahía de Caráquez; however, the situation at present is different. The present research analyzes strategies that can contribute to the reactivation of the hotel sector of this canton of Manabi, which according to the bibliography reviewed and field data collection carried out through surveys and interviews determined that the earthquake affected 25% of the total hotel beds in the city, with third-tier hotels being the most affected with a Reduction of 12% of their places. It’s like this, the present study proposes as strategies of reactivation for the hotel sector the creation of condominiums and community associations under the figure of corporate social responsibility that allow to foment the resurgence of this sector, contributing to the generation of new jobs and the dynamization of the local economy.
