CENTRO DE REHABILITACIÓN ZOO-TERAPÉUTICO

Abstract

Guayas is the province that has the highest percentage of people suffering permanent or temporary disabilities throughout Ecuador. According to the National Disability Equality Council (CONADIS), these disabilities are classified as: physical, intellectual, auditory, visual, psychological (mental), language. Intellectual disability covers an extensive classification but the most common in Guayas is Down syndrome, Autism and Asperger. Timely therapy can lead to a successful social inclusion. The Zoo-Therapy is booming worldwide for the many benefits it provides for people with intellectual disability trough the utilization of land animals like dogs, cats and horses. In order to provide specialized training to improve the quality of life and social inclusion, this study aims to design a Rehabilitation Center Zoo- Therapeutic focused on children and youth people in Samborondón, which will offer areas for equine therapy, dog therapy and felinotherapy. The methodology used was collecting information through interviews with experts in the area, historical data, surveys made in inclusive centers, texts and information that allowed the appropriate design of the rehabilitation center.
