Congenital heart diseases are the second cause of infant death in Ecuador and according to their flow increase the caloric – protein demand on infants. It is proposed a practical clinical nutrition guide for infants with congenital heart disease undergoing surgery at the Francisco Icaza Bustamante Hospital. It was performed a non experimental cross –sectional descriptive study in a sample of 89 patients of 0 to 12 months old. To obtain the results it were analyzed weight, length, age and type of congenital heart disease, in order to calculate the percentage of malnutrition and its relation with congenital heart defects by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 20 and the child growth chart of WHO tools. It was identified that the most common type of heart disease are congenital heart diseases with high pulmonary flow which is related to the nutritional status of the infant affecting mostly the weight for age and/or length (underweight and/or emaciation respectively). In order to contribute to a correct nutritional intervention it is recommended to implement the proposed guide and to evaluate the costbenefit of it.es
