Puesto que los datos acerca del GNV como complicación de vitrectomía son escasos, y debido al aumento de casos, el propósito de este estudio observacional-analítico-transversal-retrospectivo fue identificar su frecuencia en una población-ecuatoriana, y determinar asociación entre dichas variables. Se utilizó la historia clínica como herramienta de recolección, se incluyeron 64 pacientes, se describieron las variables: edad-sexo-tipo de Diabetes Mellitus-manifestaciones clínicas de RDP-ojo/s afectado/s-manejo con vitrectomía-desarrollo de GNV; y se utilizó Chi-cuadrado para el análisis. Se encontró que existe una relación estadísticamente-significativa entre la vitrectomía y el desarrollo de GNV (p<0.001); además, su frecuencia (53,17%) fue mayor a reportes previos.
