| Descripción : | La insuficiencia renal se puede definir como el daño permanente de los riñones, en esta enfermedad no se eliminan las toxinas ni el agua del organismo que sobra por lo que se requieren de otros métodos que ayuden al enfermo a sobrellevar la enfermedad. Es una enfermedad que está costando la vida de muchas personas en el mundo incluído el Ecuador y que no posee cura (CAO, 2009); en Estados Unidos está comprobado que es la novena causa de muerte entre sus habitantes (Pradeep, 2013) y su incidencia está situada en 404 casos por millón de habitantes en el caso de los hombres y 280 casos por millón de habitantes en el caso de las mujeres (Soriano, 2004); esta enfermedad es conocida también como enfermedad renal crónica (ERC) Entre las causas más comunes para que dicha enfermedad se desarrolle están principalmente la diabetes y la hipertensión, además de otros factores como aspectos congénitos.
