DISEÑO DE CENTRO GERONTOLÓGICO DIURNO PARA LA ATENCIÓN Y REHABILITACIÓN INTEGRAL EN LA CIUDAD DE GUAYAQUIL

Abstract

The exponential growth of the older adult population has become one of the greatest challenges to be faced in the 21st century. This transition is characterized by demographic aging, the increase in diseases, the lack of care and the dependence of the older adult within society, reflecting consequences in the social, economic and psychological spheres. Internationally, the year 2020 has marked a time when countries are facing a health and mental health crisis due to the COVID-19 virus, which has highlighted the lack of care and access to social and health services. Opting to transform these new needs into an opportunity, not only to provide services, but to adapt new different spaces to guarantee their rights and a correct quality of life. Integrating the use of tools that help to identify the different failures at sanitary level establishing the use of investigative methodologies by means of qualitative and quantitative tools. Therefore, the proposal of a Gerontological Day Center in the Kennedy Norte sector, in the city of Guayaquil, is based on a new concept for the creation of new recreational and interactive spaces where the inclusive and accessible design is incorporated through the use of therapeutic architecture to benefit the elderly population.
