Resumen : In Ecuador, traffic accident figures show an upward trend, experiencing a considerable increase in recent years and are legally recognized in the regulations on safety and health at work (IESS, 2016). This phenomenon coincides with the increase of mobility in the formally and economically active working population, as well as with the policies on the notification of work accidents in recent years. The objective of this study is to determine the level of risk of accidents in itínere to a working population of a Teaching Hospital through the application of a direct questionnaire. It is a descriptive study carried out to 1041 workers of the sanitary sector of the City of Cuenca through the application of the questionnaire "Survey for validation of accident risk in itínere". A high level of risk was obtained in 87.8% and significant risk in the 12.1% of the study population, factors such as age, seniority, means of transport and time of transfer are significantly correlated with the level of risk of occurrence of accidents in itínere, significant differences were established in ages especially in workers of 16 - 54 years of age in health posts subjected to prolonged working hours between 24 and 36 hours. The present study opens the possibility of carrying out future research on the effect of interventions on the identified risk populations.
