Resumen : This research aims to analyze the relationship between non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) by ultrasound diagnosis with abdominal circumference in older adults over five gerontology centers of Guayaquil in the period from october to may 2012 - 2014. 99 older adults were included in this descriptive research (15 men and 84 women). The NAFLD was evaluated by abdominal and pelvic ultrasound and the AC through a nonelastic plastic tape measure. The increased AC in men was considered above 90 cm and in women above 80 cm. The statistical ANOVA one fact test was used to determine the association among the degrees of NALFD and the AC. By relating gender, age, mobility, independent life, full meals and attendance at a gerontology center with abdominal circmference, the p value obtained was 0,05, which excludes a relationship. The confusion variables like BMI, MNA and mass fat % do not influence in the measurement of AC, therefore they are not taken into account. Through the Rho Spearman test, the correlation coefficient obtained was 0,342 highly significant at the 0,01 level. A strong association between the NALFD degrees and the abdominal circumference is confirmed. In conclusion, the increase of NALFD degrees correspond to the AC increase, then this confirms, that in this population the relation between these two variables exists.
