Resumen : Inguinal hernia is a social problem due to its high incidence and from the surgical point of view, one of the interventions carried out by most of general surgeons in the world. At the beginning of this research work, the purpose is to determine the postoperative complications of inguinal herniorraphy in the General Hospital Dr. Liborio Panchana Sotomayor, with the objective of having real statistical data that allows us to have a clinical perspective and in this way to know what the most frequent complications of this pathology are. The design of this investigation is retrospective, descriptive of observational type; the information was collected from Clinical Histories whose data were analyzed with the Excel computer program. The study population was the patients who underwent inguinal herniorraphy in the period 2015 and 2016; with a total of 120 patients who gather the inclusion criteria. Within the population studied after the exclusion criteria we obtained a sample of 48 patients where it was demonstrated by statistical analysis, obtaining frequencies and percentages, means and standard deviation, elaboration of double-entry tables, statistical significance with the Chi-square test the results that will be exposed below. Regarding sex, complications occurred in 31 male patients, representing 65% of the sample compared to females by 17 (35%) patients, data that validates the current study since in various literatures they confirm that there is predominance in the male sex being the biggest factor triggering the physical effort made in 39.6% as reflected in our statistics.
