PARQUE NACIONAL CAJAS Y SU APORTE A LA ECONOMÍA LOCAL

Abstract

The climate change and the different variations in the water cycle in recent times continues to generate great concerns to the different local and international authorities. This situation strongly threatens different species of the natural habitat and even puts the lives of many people at risk. It is evident the change in this fast pace environment and accelerated ways of production of the different products; which happens to happens in large quantities especially in the first world countries. This situation may be one of the main reasons why these climate changes are destroying earth. It surprises and surpasses the capacity of the authorithies to face these situations caused by the different alterations of mother nature. Faced with this evident reality of the problem of water resources and the problem of the environment, many authorities have proposed different alternatives for a possible solution. Unfortunately, when it comes to fulfilling these promises there is a lack of commitment at international, regional and local levels; for a better tomorrow they are still far from being only promises written on a paper that will only remain for history. Among the challenges should include conservation of the environments that generate life, the economic value of the resources affected, management plans and include contributions from all those who benefit from the natural water resources. The following document proceeds to analyze the current situation of Cajas National Park, which is the main source of drinking water for the city of Cuenca and that water is also the main source of energy for one of the largest dams in our country. In the development of the academic article, a descriptive research will be carried out based on scientific sources related to this important place in the Ecuadorian highlands, such as the Cajas National Park. In addition, a survey will be conducted of the different activities that tourists perform, which are important contributions that inject into the local economy and how these revenues could generate better benefits if they are well implemented. This research reveals that the reality of the PNC is like there is s gold mine which generates great economic beneficts to city and the country. In the meantime, it makes people reflect to take care more of this place and its sorroundings.
