LOS ARANCELES A LAS IMPORTACIONES DE CALZADO Y SU RELACIÓN CON EL CRECIMIENTO DE LA INDUSTRIA DEL CALZADO ECUATORIANO EN EL PERIODO 2005 AL 2014

Abstract

This article determines the relationship between the footwear’s import rates in Ecuador and the growth of that industry. The high presence of input of the product coming mainly from China and nearby countries that began to affect domestic production was one of the reasons why the government implemented measures of rate protection. Based on the model of import substitution, a regression model is developed to determine the relationship between growth and rates. Variables such as gross domestic product of the industry and the footwear rates are used for the model and both are measured since 2005 until 2014. Though it shows a model with little goodness of fit, a positive relationship between the two variables is obtained. Finally, it can be detected that there has been an increase in the growth of the industry since the implementation of the import rate to the product.
